Serena Williams is at It Again!! This is What She Has Done This Time
Serena Williams loves making history, doesn’t she? Her exploits on the tennis court have made her one of the most decorated female athletes of all time, and she isn’t anywhere close to hanging her boots just yet.
On the business front, Serena is additionally taking no chances. Since 2014, the star athlete has been running Serena Ventures, a venture-capital that funds entrepreneurs looking to start their own companies.
Until now, Serena’s firm has partnered with over thirty companies, with her target being mostly women and people of color.
The 37-year-old’s hard work in both the sports and business worlds has paid off, with the star becoming the first athlete to grace Forbes Magazine’s list of the wealthiest self-made women in the United States.
The list ranks the country’s female entrepreneurs in order of their success, and this time around Serena debuted at number 80.
That’s quite the achievement, and Forbes saw it fit for Serena to grace the cover of the magazine for her incredible milestone.
Thanks to earnings from various tournament wins and investments via Serena Ventures, the athlete cum entrepreneur is now worth an estimated $225 million, and we can hardly dispute the fact that she deserves it all.
According to her, Serena Ventures doesn’t get into bed with just anyone. The firm carefully considers each of their potential investments before going ahead and putting money in it.
Serena also says that she’s more interested in funding start-ups that are in tune with the things she is interested in so that she’s more involved with their infrastructure.
Going by what she told Forbes, Serena’s love for seed investing has considerably grown compared to when she first started her company.
Admitting that she hardly makes huge gambles, the tennis queen revealed that there was just something about the seed approach that appealed to her.
Considering how many companies she has helped get on their feet over the years, she must feel that her gamble paid off!
All Industries Are Welcome
Additionally, Serena Ventures doesn’t limit itself on the type of industry to invest in. They’ve been in food, e-commerce, fashion, health and wellness, name them.
Are you wondering which exact companies we are talking about? LOLA, Tonal, Coinbase, Daily Harvest, Google, Brandless; the list goes on and on.
Serena credits much of her success in business to her husband, Alexis Ohanian. He is, in his own right, just as successful as she is, although in an entirely different world. But business is business, right?
The Reddit co-founder sold his company for a sum that has never been made public, although we speculate that it was between $10-$20 million.
Ohanian is now his own boss at Initialized Capital where he serves as CEO, and there’s no doubt that he has lots of knowledge to impart on his wife.
Additionally, the man has confessed that he has no problem prioritizing his wife’s dreams over his, and if that isn’t the kind support everyone expects from their partner!
