Out of all types of celebrities, rappers are probably the most extravagant when it comes to their lifestyle. Expensive clothes, luxury cars, and beautiful women. These are the usual staples that these musicians flaunt to their fans.
Canadian rap icon Drake is no exception. After making headlines with the recent purchase of his very own private jet, the 32-year-old star is back in the news again. This time it’s because of his new $500,000 bling.
An Expensive Gift
The luxurious jacket came as a form of thanks from the Canadian basketball team the Toronto Raptors for Drake’s fantastic performance as their official ‘Global Ambassador’. Custom made by the men’s clothing company, Garrison Bespoke, the one-of-a-kind fashion piece is encrusted with 235 pieces of lab-grown diamonds each carefully sewn in by hand.
These diamonds were sewn to form a basketball outline on its inner part and the singer’s signature OVO owl logo outside. Meanwhile, the jacket’s lining features the black and gold Raptors jersey that Drake himself designed for the team.
While people may be surprised by this expensive gift, Drake wasn’t. He’s been receiving a custom gift from the Raptors for five years in a row now for being its ambassador. and Garrison Bespoke has been dutifully supplying these gifts.
Still, the brand’s owner Michael Nguyen says that they’re honored to create such unique pieces for the rapper describing the jacket as a marriage between old world craft and modern innovation.
His new $500,000 jacket will definitely be a nice addition to his already million-dollar wardrobe. Some of his most expensive pieces include a 100-carat diamond necklace in the shape of his signature owl logo and his totally bonkers $400,000 iPhone case.
The contents of his closet have often been the topic of speculations from both fans and fashion enthusiasts. A Youtube channel called The Unknown Vlogs has actually made a couple of videos guessing just how much Drake’s outfits costs.
So far, they’ve recorded items like an $11,000 custom Brioni jacket, tons of Tom Ford turtlenecks and black pants (which reportedly cost $2,000 a piece) and a $200,000 watch from Richard Mille to name a few. That’s only the tip of the iceberg that is Drake’s closet though.
Avoiding the Drake Curse
Meanwhile, some fans are still wary of the ‘Drake Curse’ and how it might affect the Toronto Raptors’ performance this NBA season. This unlucky reputation was attached to the musician when fans started noticing that sports teams, which Drake shows support for, would go on losing streaks afterward.
Being the good sport that he is, Drake would often indulge fans’ concerns. For example, there was the time when he chose not to attend a Raptors finals game to avoid jinxing his team. He even showed himself wearing a pair of 76ers shorts on an Instagram live in attempts to use his ‘curse’ on the opposing team.
