Are you a fan of the MCU? If yes, then you definitely know that of the superheroes in Marvel’s Infinity Saga, Ant-Man is the unsung hero. When his movie first came out in 2015, who knew that the shrinking little guy would be the key to defeating the Mad Titan, Thanos?
And if you know all this about the tiny superhero, you must also know that Paul Rudd is the actor that portrays him on screen. But did you know that the actor also displayed his talents in what came to arguably be the best sitcom of all time?
Just to get you all caught up, that TV series was Friends. Yeah, that show that still has a cult-like following, 25 years after it first aired. So, what character did Rudd play? Any fan of the show will gladly tell you that he started out as Phoebe’s (Lisa Kudrow) love interest Mike Hannigan (with Joey (Matt LeBlanc) setting up the lady with a perfect stranger), who later went on to become her husband.
The thing with Rudd is that he wasn’t on the show for as long as the other iconic cast members, but he sure did make an undeniable impact. Do you remember the finale in Season 9? Rudd’s character Mike proposed to Phoebe, and the two got married in the next season, which also happened to be the show’s last.
Mike even made it to Season 10’s last episode, the emotional one where the characters we had grown to love had to go their separate ways. That’s just life though, right? And if you didn’t shed a tear or two, you have a heart of stone. Just kidding though!
With everyone being surprised about just how important Mike was in the Friends storyline, Paul Rudd himself is on the same wavelength with the rest of us. Speaking in Graham Norton’s comedic talk show, the 50-year-old actor revealed that in his head, it made no sense that he was actually in the last Friends episode that would ever air.
As you would expect, filming this final episode took its toll on all those involved. They’d worked together for a decade and the curtains were finally closing. Among those hardest-hit by this was Jennifer Aniston (who played Rachel Green), with Rudd revealing that she was in tears most of the time.
To try and make a light moment of it, the actor approached his co-star and tried to make a joke about how they’d finally made it to the end. Unfortunately, Jen was having none of it. Talk of a joke backfiring on you! If there’s something that’s quite embarrassing, it has got to be exactly this.
The actress got visibly more upset, having the opposite reaction that Rudd expected. As it turns out, this wasn’t the first time that the actor was having a run-in with THE Jennifer Aniston. Apparently these two had some encounter the very first day Rudd showed up on set, and it was pretty ugly that he thought the showrunners would axe him.
Fortunately, that didn’t happen, and the pair ended up being good friends. They even starred in Wanderlust in 2012, and their friendship couldn’t be better.
