Ever thought that the great Leonardo DiCaprio could get starstruck? Well, turns out that not even a celebrity of his caliber is immune to the charm of particular stars, most notably Luke Perry.
Throughout his career, Leo has had the chance to work with A-list Hollywood actors. Currently, he’s starring alongside Al Pacino, Margot Robbie, and Brad Pitt in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Surge of Excitement
In a roundtable with his current costars hosted by Clark Collis (Entertainment Weekly), the late actor came up, and Leo described the first time he met the idol.
He admitted that he felt this immediate surge of excitement upon seeing Luke, going even as far as confirming that he was indeed starstruck.
Luke, continued Leo, was actually a kind man, a fact that endeared him to the Titanic actor. To this, Brad Pitt had something to add, saying that Perry was incredibly and truly generous. Why is it that the best of humanity are the ones that leave us too soon?
Perry became a household name playing Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210. In 1995, he left the show in search of more mature roles, but three years later he was back on the series that thrust him to stardom. After all, isn’t home where the heart is?
Unfortunately, Luke Perry passed on in March this year at a relatively young age seeing as he was only 52. 2019 didn’t set off on the right foot for him, with the actor suffering a stroke in February. After a second stroke hit him, his family decided to heed the doctors’ recommendation and take him off life support.
According to his representative, Perry left this world surrounded by those who were closest to him, including his kids Sophie and Jack.
Their mom Minnie Sharp and the actor’s ex-wife was also present, as was Wendy Bauer, his fiancée. His mother and step-father Ann and Steve Bennet had to say their goodbyes, and they had some of their close friends present for support.
Perry’s career saw him starring in Rivadale, and Cole Sprouse who starred alongside him on the show had nothing but kind words for the dearly departed.
Rightly so, Sprouse opined that Luke wouldn’t want anyone lamenting that he was gone. Instead, he’d have those who knew him cherish the good times they all spent together, laughing and recalling all the fun they had.
One of the Good Guys
Sprouse also confirmed that Luke was one of the good guys in Hollywood, saying that you’d never hear anyone badmouth the actor in the industry.
This sentiment was repeated multiple times by those who knew him, and even the media outlets couldn’t have been kinder.
One particular column by Jill Filipovic for CNN stood out, with the journalist describing Luke Perry as beautiful, vibrant, and prosperous.
Regarding the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death, Filipovic painfully reminded us that sadly, how we depart this world is far beyond anyone’s control.
In honor of the great man whose popularity succeeded to get to Leonardo DiCaprio, Reelz announced and subsequently released a documentary titled Luke Perry: In His Own Words.
The special features the highlights of the man’s career, and the relationships he built while at it. RIP Luke.
