If there’s a person whose world must be caving in, it has got to be Lindsay Lohan. You know of her Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club reality show, right? Well, despite the MTV show being irrefutably eponymous, a recent announcement by the channel revealed that the actress’ services were no longer required.
For those who know nothing about the show, it was all about documenting the lives of Lohan’s staff at her club in Mykonos, and reports from Page Six indicate that the nightclub is also closing down. Do misfortunes ever come singly?!?
The nightclub began its operations in May last year, with the actress’ show airing its first episode in January this year.
Soon after its pilot, critics drew comparisons between Beach Club and Vanderpump Rules, although the comparison didn’t augur well with the show’s cast.
According to them, they were doing a much better job than the team in the show they were being compared to.
Pulling the plug already?
Why then, is the channel pulling the show’s plug? When Beach Club first hit the screens, it was okay as far as ratings go. However, the reviews were a completely different ball game.
We all know how important reviews are, no? What of how they affect a show’s rating? Before deciding to settle on a new show, we always check out its reviews.
Negative reviews automatically put us off, and we’re already looking for something else to keep us entertained.
That Lohan’s show wasn’t receiving any favors on this front meant that viewership declined as the show progressed, with the ratings also displaying a sharp dip.
Who doesn’t know that it’s all about ratings in matters TV? No wonder MTV saw it fit to discontinue Lohan!
If you’re at all curious, the channel didn’t just suddenly decide to cancel the reality show. According to Page Six, plans were in the works to renew it for a second season, but with drastic changes.
Instead of focusing on the nightclub, the producers wanted to place emphasis on Lindsay Lohan, her mother, and her sister, in a bid to sprinkle some excitement.
No Can Do
Unfortunately, Lohan wasn’t for the idea. Going by the word of an insider, the actress didn’t want to air any of her dirty laundry on the show, as this is exactly what the producers were asking for.
According to them, seeing her at her very worst would appeal to audiences and increase their ratings. Why would they want to do this to her?
Despite all signs showing that Lohan’s show will not return for a second season, there have been talks that it may very well return, but without the actress as part of its cast. That seems pretty cruel though, don’t you think?
How do they imagine that they’d continue without Lohan? Her nightclub was at the heart of the show, and Page Six reports that it is all but deserted.
People who had made summer reservations received calls that the club would be closed and the owner’s sign has already been stripped off.
